What is a copywriter?

A copywriter is a person who writes content for marketing communications.  Whether the copy is for print (flyers, brochures, advertising, advertorials etc) or for digital (websites, profiles for LinkedIn, online advertising etc) or even other mediums such as ditties for the radio.

There are all sorts of tools and tactics a copywriter will use – from doing tonnes of research to understanding the emotional triggers of buyers.

What is a web copywriter?

A web copywriter specializes in writing quality content for websites that generate leads from the Internet. Keyword research is still part of this process as the key aim is to always know your customer inside and out.   In other words ... what is the problem and how can you solve it!

It is important to establish “authority” with your customers and also for search engines like Google.

The aim? To build brand authority and create high quality content – Google loves it!

What is a graphic designer?

A graphic designer is a person who designs logos, creates brand image and styling guides, designs stunning images for marketing communications whether it is for print (brochures, flyers, advertising, advertorials), digital (websites, online advertising) to signage.

Having professional graphic design sends such a highly important message to your customers.  If you want to do well you have to look great.

What is a marketing communications strategy?

A marketing strategy identifies who you want to market your business to and how you are going to do it. A marketing strategy helps you identify your target market and/or your niche market.

A marketing communications strategy for a new start up business may include: creating a new rack card, attending networking events, getting a logo designed and getting a new website.  From there you might decide to create a monthly e-newsletter, or post regular blogs onto your website to help drive quality traffic.

What’s the benefit of a graphic designer and copywriter working together?

Apart from it’s a lot of fun, working together gives great synergy and power for all our marketing communications and projects.  Awesome ideas flow, and brainstorming creates incredible results.

If we are working on an advert together we understand each other’s style and we compliment our strengths.  An example of how we work together is described by Joe Sugarman, one of the all time greats of copywriting when he describes the critical elements of an advert:

Headline: To get your attention and draw you to the sub-headline

Sub-headline: To give you more information and further explain the attention getting headline.

Graphic, Image or Illustration: To get your attention and to illustrate the product more fully.

Caption: To describe the photo or drawing.  This is an important element and one that is often read.

To us you can’t have one without the other.

When we work on websites this is called website design and content management.  We write the content for all the pages: landing page, about us, services/products/FAQ’s,blogs etc.  We create the logos, the layout, the format, the styling guide, the design, choose the right font – everything to make your website look incredible and professional.

We're lucky because as freelancers we don't have expensive overheads to worry about which means we can do amazing work at a great price.
